Announcing Drinks, Putts & Fire Trucks
A community building and fund-raising event for Glen Lake Fire Department
The Glen Lake Fire Department and River Club Glen Arbor announced today their first annual community building and fund-raising event: Drinks, Putts & Fire Trucks. Taking place Wednesday, June 17 from 4 to 8pm at River Club. The event will be a celebration of the massive contribution the Glen Lake Fire Department makes to the greater Leelanau County region.
The two primary goals are to create closer ties to community members with individual fire department personnel and the second being to raise funds keeping the department flourishing and modern given the vast needs of the community.
River Club will donate a portion of their profits for the day to the Glen Lake Fire Department’s general fund along with providing community members a free round of golf on their next visit.
While community building and education is important, it’ll be done within an overall lighthearted and fun atmosphere. Some of the highlights include:
• The GLFD ladder truck will telescope their 105-foot ladder with an American flag over the River Club park.
• For every hole in one a giant siren mounted atop the River Club Sky Deck will sound and the lucky golfer will be presented with a Fire Department t-shirt and hat.
• The golfer with lowest score will win River Club’s famous and enormous Mucho Macho Nacho.
• River Club will feature a specialty drink of the day called the Glen Lake Fire-Rita, a delightfully spicy margarita along with chips and Glen Lake Five Alarm Salsa.
• Various holes throughout the course will showcase different aspects of the fire department. There’ll be a CPR hole complete with training dummy, a Beat the Fire Fighter hole where each golfer will have a chance to win a prize for getting a lower score than the fire fighter and hole with a fully dressed fire fighter for photo taking.
• The Glen Lake Fire Department ATV, side by side, boat, and ambulance will be staged in and around the River Club property.
• Spare fire department gear will be available for kids and parents to wear and take photos.
• A tent with public education materials will also be on sight.
“We couldn’t be more excited to showcase Glen Lake Fire Department’s capabilities and staff to the local community. Our goal is for the community to obtain a closer, more personal connection with the fire department while raising funds for trucks, gear and training” said Bryan Ferguson, Chief of Glen Lake Fire Department. He added “We sure appreciate the support of the community and especially all the efforts of River Club Glen Arbor.”
“We’re extremely proud to be a member of the Glen Arbor community and to be able to help out the Fire Department in a way that the community can give and have fun at the same time” commented Mike Sheldon, owner of River Club Glen Arbor.
River Club will have a professional DJ spinning records and narrating the event along with a live band starting at 5pm.
The event comes with the support of the Glen Lake Fire and Rescue Association. Drinks, Putts & Fire Trucks committee members include Bryan Ferguson, Chad Dykgraaf and Nate Perdue from the Fire Department, Mike Sheldon and Stephen Brotschul from River Club, Pam Laureto Township Clerk, and Glen Lake Fire and Rescue Association member Sue Church.
All community members are encouraged to spread the word and attend the event.
